Blog#15: The consumption tax rate

Manami Hiramoto

Hello everyone! How are you?
Recently, I am worry about a consumption tax. I heard that Mr. Noda decided to increase consumption tax rate. At present, the consumption tax rate is 5 percent, but then it would be raised in stages to 10 percent by 2015. That is, twice burden than now!
We go shopping almost every day. We buy a lot of stuff. For example, foods, drinks, clothes, books, daily necessities… and so on. At first we must feel a heavy burden if the consumption tax rate is raised to 10percent in practice.
However I think it is necessary to increase taxes. It is true that the National Treasury doesn’t have enough funds to adopt many policies. Especially, it is important to prepare the funds for the disaster areas of the Tohoku Earthquake to recover and rebuild. Then, if we demand high-level social security in our future, we have to accept paying large taxes.
How do you think about it?

Blog#15: POPOPOPON!

Yuki Morita

Hello! Do you enjoy your winter vacation?
I talk about my favorite TV commercial today. This is the commercial.
I think everyone knows it! This is the public commercial, named "Magic of Greeting (あいさつの魔法。) " by AC JAPAN. I think you often watched it after the Tohoku Earthquake, but it was made in 2010. After the Tohoku Earthquake, many private corporations refrained from broadcasting their TV commercials, so AC JAPAN broadcasted the commercial.
The commercial tells the importance of greeting. A little boy has his name, " John Taro Hello". He always smiles. Many characters seem very fun. The phrase 'POPOPOPON' has very strong impression. Once we hear the phrase, we can't forget it! It expresses the pleasure of greeting and making friends.
When I watch the commercial, I always remember the time when the Tohoku Earthquake occured. I live in Saitama, but I felt a big quake at that time. I watched many shocking news on TV, experienced the scheduled power outage, and lived with worry every day. However, I watched the commercial many times, and I was encouraged. I want to remember the importance of greeting even if we have a terrible situation.  The commercial has a power to encourage many people, I think.
